Ancillary Justice had a great deal of promise and set up a very interesting world and themes; unfortunately I think these subsequent two books fail to capitalise on it. It gets a little lost in the menutia of tea and politics, which I could normally get behind but found a little tiresome here. I very much enjoyed the development of Sievarden and Breq's relationship in the first book and have then found that it's stagnated there and now feels emotionally unfulfilling. Breq is a pretty stoic character, which I normally enjoy and felt that the first book set up a nice contrast between her and emotional Sievarden, but there was very little follow through.

I also have an audiobook issue, which is that the narrator has not thought about the gender politics of this world at all and seems to assign 'manly' voices to characters she thinks are biologically men, and don't even get me started on the kinds of accents she chooses based on the class of the character.
