After reading the first couple of stories I was a bit skeptical. The writing was fine, but the content seemed simplistic, a black-and-white worldview. To my great surprise, the collection became more complexly thought and written as I kept reading. Brant reversed the traditional story order and saved her best stories for the end. "Turtle Girl" was my favorite, but I was delighted by all the stories of the latter half. A wonderful read.
