Fast read... nothing new ... but entertaining

STOP KILLING OFF THE NEWLYWEDS PATTERSON.

Ugh, this book kept my interest but it was eye roll inducing. I need to stop reading his books.

Good beach mystery

Like any James Patterson book, it was fast-paced and read quickly. However, like many of his books, Honeymoon was filled with half-baked plot twists, plot developments that were unnecessarily made into twists, and just odd narrative decisions throughout.

If the book had been straightforward, then I might would've enjoyed it better. Instead, Patterson treats every single event in the book as a soap opera style twist before the commercial. I was only waiting for the musical stings at the end of each chapter. Instead, I found myself confused about some of the twists and their significance. In fact, I'm still confused about the point of the subplot about a briefcase and large amount of money that has little to no relevance to the main plot at all.

In short, this might be the book that gets me to sweat off James Patterson completely. A waste of time and effort. Don't bother unless you are a James Patterson completionist (and I don't know how you can do that to yourself and be a serious reader).

This was definitely something different for me -- I don't generally read the thriller/crime/suspense genre. But, a friend lent me this one and swore I'd like it, so I decided that it was at least worth a shot, right?

I do like that the story is told in a bazillion shorter chapters, which helps keep my attention a little better in this type of story. It was easy to pick this up in short spurts throughout the week without getting lost.

Basically, this is the tale of a black widow who finds rich men, preys on them, and then poisons them -- always through a drug laced omelet. Then there is a scheming mother in the nuthouse, an undercover FBI agent who doesn't seem to be quite smart enough to be a real FBI agent, a grieving man's sister, and a few random other characters that just didn't stand out as much.

I can't quit wondering why the FBI agent was stupid enough to eat a meal prepared by someone he KNEW to be a serial killer. As easily as he was led astray by a pretty woman, you'd think he'd be long dead by now!

My favorite character was the mom in the nuthouse. She had style!

If you like thrillers, give it a try. I liked it. It wasn't love at first site, but it was entertaining enough!

Meh

My first Patterson novel. He keeps it moving, but there are many jarring references to high end kitchen appliances, the smell of potpourri, and kinds of shoes that I don't buy the FBI agent would have in the tip of his tongue. I've heard Patterson say he doesn't write realism, but the book would have been more entertaining to me if it were at least internally consistent.

The book was disappointing because it could have been a lot more than what was given. It was very bland and predictable. I liked Nora 'cause she reminded me of Joe from YOU. And I found myself rooting for her, which redeemed the whole thing a little.
