I had put this book down a while ago, but after rereading Heroes of Olympus and Percy Jackson, and rereading Hidden Oracle, I decided to give it another chance. I loved it so much!!! There were some slow moments, but overall, a great sequel to the first novel. Off to the next one!

Un solide second tome. J'aurai aimé en savoir plus sur certains personnages. Mais vraiment, j'adore Lester haha !!
Il me tarde tout simplement de me plonger dans le troisième et dernier tome snif !

It took me a little longer to get to this book than pretty much any other book Uncle Rick has cranked out so far. Nothing against Apollo, I just had other things to focus on when the book came out and I'm finally at a place where I can read it.
I will say that I really love Apollo as a character. He's a lot more egocentric than most of the other narrators that have come from the mythoverse (no idea what to call this Greco-Roman/Egyptian/Norse conglomerate), and his dual perspectives of the divine and the mortal are always really interesting. I like how though he is taking baby steps, he still has a long way to go.
Probably one of my favorite things in the mythoverse is the mesh between the classic and the modern. Like the emperor bringing in the Indy 500 to his gladiator match, or all the casual asides to when the gods interacted with well-known people in history. It's actually kind of clever, sneakily putting that in and making kids curious about those people and that moment.
It could be because I'm older, but I always love when these books go dark. There's still a lighthearted element and it's still fun, but there's also a reality of "oh, yeah, people are fighting and there is death". I'm super looking forward to the next book, because not only do we get Grover back, but it seems like we're going to dive more into Meg's backstory. And I for one am very interested in seeing how Uncle Rick handles the manipulation and abuse that she clearly went through before meeting up with Apollo.
No surprise here that we have another great addition to the mythoverse! I know there are a million characters, but here's hoping we at least get nods to the Egyptian gang at some point in the future. Next up, another trip to Valhalla!
