I dove into this on a whim after watching a review from Emily Heath on TikTok - and it was every bit as wild as she said it would be.
This starts out with the mother of the MFC realizing that if she keeps trying to have children for her husband (who wants a son/heir), she's likely going to die. So, she and her midwife devise a plan to pretend her second daughter is a son, intending to tell her husband in a couple of years once she has recovered. Except she doesn't. So now Jules Southby has lived her entire life as a man and knows that if this secret were to get out, her family would be ruined.
Enter the Duke of Wolverton, who, after being lost in the wild for 10 years, alone, without human contact, is now back in society with his family and entering the public, and he can smell that Jules is a woman.
This historical romance was bonkers, and I loved every moment of it; highly recommend it if you want a quick, fun, low spice read (available on KU in the US).

A new FAVORITE! I love how Stacy kept me guessing on how the events would be played out. This was really good. Jules (Julianna) and James were so fun to watch together. James gah! yes he does have "wolf" traits and fitting for the Duke of Wulverton, even a bit of a Tarzan trait. There is raw emotion coming out of the pages towards the end. I can't wait for what Stacy releases next.

I love this author, but this book was just ludicrous & cringe-worthy. Too far-fetched and overdone tropes and melodrama. Pass & read her other books.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow, I quite enjoyed this one! It may be one of my favorite Reid novels so far. I think it’s primary draw for me was how many different elements it has from a historical romance. I really enjoyed reading a woman disguised as a man in a longterm way, it definitely added a certain freedom to the romance that would not be appropriate for the time. Also, the element of psychology was super fascinating and how open the protagonists could talk with each other.
I guess I really enjoy reading a historical romance with less rules!
As with most romances, there were a few cringy things for me — the nickname “Wildflower” was used excessively and James has a habit of literally sniffing
Jules and smelling her from across the room. Alas.

I really appreciated how this author was striving for something unique with this historical romance.
James comes back to society after 10 years lost in the extremes of the Canadian wilderness, and Jules, a student of psychology, has been living her entire life as a man.

The premise of this book is so good. I loved the interaction and chemistry between our two main leads.
Trigger Warning: mention of miscarriage
