Ok…this book was way better than I expected. I really enjoyed the characters, and I love that the author somehow gave them so much depth in such a short amount of time. The plot line about Zella being Emerson’s missing daughter was so predictable, but it was done in such a good way that I don’t really care. I loved the relationship they built, although it was built really fast, and I enjoyed the happy - albeit short - ending. My one real problem with this book was how fast things moved in the beginning. I think that Zella was a little too naive and innocent - after being alone for her entire life - for the relationship to progress as quick as it did. But all in all, I loved this book

3⭐️⭐️⭐️& 22🌶️🌶️. I am a little conflicted with this book, not gonna lie it’s messsedddd uppp. But did we enjoy it anyway? Obviously. It started strong, with a lot of potential but fell a little flat for me around halfway. It’s a dark Rapunzel retelling if it was set in New York and she was locked in a warehouse by a serial killer and then is “rescued” by 3 vigilante serial killers instead. I found the tedious hair wash routine amusing, this is a side of fairytales we don’t get. Things I didn’t like… whilst it was well written, parts felt a bit fanfictiony to me. It was a very quick story, and I therefore felt the sexual encounters were extremely rushed and a little distasteful when you consider what Zella has gone through. I would personally prefer a longer book with a little more build up and character development. But that’s my practical brain talking and it had dark smut so 3 stars from me!

I’m always skeptical of a fairytale re-telling, especially when it’s a dark romance but I absolutely loved this. There’s smut (obviously, it’s RH) but it’s not overly done and it focuses more on the actual story of Zella, and I thought it was done really interestingly.
