I really enjoyed this book! Especially the longer stories, "In the Manner of Water or Light", "Of Ghosts and Shadows" and "A Cool, Dry Place", but the shorter ones were also amazing; my favorite of those was "Gracias, Nicaragua y Lo Sentimos".

absolutely brilliant. i enjoyed every single short story in this and the writing was impeccable. there was something about this read and gay's style of prose that felt oddly comforting despite the heavy subject matter in some of the longer shorts. 

probably one of the easiest five stars i've handed to a book this year.

In the Manner of Water or Light is a story with so much pain but describes the physical sensations of memory and trauma so well. All the stories are good but this one really got into my bones.

Everything I know about my family's history, I know in fragments. We are the keepers of secrets. We are secrets ourselves. We try to protect each other from the geography of so much sorrow, I don't know that we succeed.

I don't even know what to say, this is so beautifully written😭 My favorite is In the Manner of Water or Light.
