I don’t want to say too much and give anything away, but this was such a fun read!

Diverse characters, high school drama, werewolves. What more could you want?

The love story felt a little rushed / out of left field. But then I skimmed back through the novel and there were signs if you knew to look for them. Kinda fun to re-read it that way. There are a few depictions of kissing, but I would say this is more closed door, so no real spice.

But it was a five star read for me. With graphic novels that means the story was clever or emotionally engaging (the former in this case) and the artwork appealed to my sensibilities.

Really gorgeous. Didn’t care enough about the characters.

the sapphic storyline feels tossed in for kicks, but the rest of the graphic novel is very intriguing. it is definitely a product of the “women bite back” era of media (ex. Promising Young Woman). wasn’t thrilled with the resolution, not sure what message it’s trying to send, but overall a fun read!

I liked the commentary on the current social climate around sexual assault and the dig at Brett Kavanaugh. I didn't like how they portrayed the girl who was out of eating disorder treatment as "insufferable". When the main characters had their own sort of eating disorder. But overall it was a great book.

A group of continually hangry teenagers fight predatorial behaviour... without addressing their inner misogynistic issues.

Squad operates on the premise of a new mixed-race student trying to fit in by joining an all-girls gang with "Mean Girls" mechanics. It misses being the feminist commentary it tries to be when the protagonist and her abused peers by a Regina George figure are portrayed solely as victims. You can't sympathise with them as they are still toxic to others when not in the presence of their aggressor.

In the end, most problems aren't solved and are kind of played down when the main obstacle is sorted out.
