Aveline Jones series of books is fast becoming my favourite middlegrade spooky books. She's a fantastic main character with the regular friends and family showing up. Wholesome and just supernatural enough to keep an adult entertained too. In this encounter Aveline travels to Bristol and stays in a cottage by some standing stones. She learns the history of the witch trial that happened there hundreds of years ago (without going into too much detail, but still enough that a younger curiosity could seek out more info) as well as knowledge of Wicca good and bad. Brilliant fun

Summer holiday, and Aveline is with her mum in a remote cottage in a little village in the middle of nowhere. Boring…or at least it is until Aveline befriends one of the local girls who isn’t quite what she seems.
We can tell where this is going a mile off, but the story is engaging and offers some genuinely creepy moments.
Hazel and her desire to be friends with Aveline could have gone very differently, but we sense things will resolve themselves.
A quick read, giving just the right amount of creepy vibes. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this before publication.
