Creepy, atmospheric, lovely and crazy cool characters. This author definitely knows how to write middle grade. He doesn't condecend, like some adult author have a tendency to do when writing for this age group

Another fun Aveline Jones book! This series is so engaging! The writing pulls you right in, and whether you’re a middle grade student or much older
The first book was definitely more spooky but this was still wonderful and a great lesson for kids about toxic friendships (and cool witches)
Another delightful Aveline book! Last autumn I read The Haunting of Aveline Jones and absolutely adored it. Perfectly atmospheric for an October with pumpkins and ghosts. The Bewitching of Aveline Jones is a spooky summer story, perfect for campouts, humid evenings, and telling tales around a fire. It's the last week of August and Aveline and her mother have finally got a chance for a holiday, but just in the nearby village of Norton Wick, close to their home in Bristol. Norton Wick, however, has some interesting ancient standing stones known as 'The Witch Stones.' Aveline notices a girl hanging out at the stones and befriends her, but something about her new friend seems a little odd. When Aveline's friend Harold arrives from Malmouth with some books on standing stones, the mystery begins to unravel...
I compared the first Aveline book to Wait 'Til Helen Comes (which is one of my favorite ghost stories of all time), but this one was even more so. A summer story, a lonely girl named Hazel, and the promise of a glorious life just waiting for the 'chosen friend.' But this one was its own thing, too: I especially loved the melding of the real history of 17th-century witch trials, ancient druids, and even hints of 'Hansel & Gretel.' Definitely worth reading this book for some atmospheric spookies!

Di liburan musim panas ini, alih2 berlibur di pantai seperti teman-temannya, Aveline malah berlibur di suatu tempat yang sunyi bersama ibunya yang bernama Norton Wick.
Dekat dengan tempat penginapan mereka, terdapat “ancient stone circle” yang bernama “The Witch Stones” yang kabarnya memang berkaitan dengan penyihir - tetapi cerita di balik batu itu banyak versi.
Aveline yang memang anak yang penuh rasa penasaran, mencari tahu lebih banyak dong kebenaran #TheWitchStones ini. Apalagi dia mulai melihat ada sesosok yang awalnya hanya dia sendiri yang bisa melihat dan berkenalan dengan seorang anak perempuan bernama Hazel.
Hazel - yang ingin menjadi sahabat Aveline - bukan anak biasa. Dia bisa tiba-tiba muncul atau menghilang, bahkan banyak keanehan yang “tampak wajar” terkait Hazel dan ceritanya. Siapa sih Hazel sebenarnya? Apakah memang ada penyihir? Botol segel apa yang ditemukan Aveline di dekat batu? Jawabannya tentu saja ada di buku ini.
Buku #TheBewitchingOfAvelineJones ini bagus. Sedikit di bawah ekspektasi walaupun masih memuaskan. Namun, jika dibanding dengan buku pertama, buku kedua ini tidak se-spooky buku pertama yang memancarkan aura dingin dan gelap. Di sini justru tidak sekelam itu walaupun ada beberapa kejadian yang “bikin merinding” kalau dialami.
Selain Aveline, Harold sahabatnya juga muncul di buku ini. Begitu pula dengan tante dan paman pemilik toko buku di buku pertama. Bahkan satu tokoh baru dengan peran penting

Was very excited to be back on another spooky adventure with Aveline - this time a bewitching tale. This is a short but well-written story that will grip readers having them on the edge of their seat (or reading by torchlight under the covers) just to find out what magic is at play! Superb!
