Given how good most of the reviews were, I really wanted to like this book, but I gave up after 100 pages, jumped to 50 pages from the end, and just skimmed those to check whether the killer was the person I'd suspected (it was). The last part was even worse than the beginning - as if the author just wanted to get it finished and didn't care how.

The biggest problem was the completely implausible main character. As other negative reviews here say, she fits every maverick detective cliche and would never have got to that level of seniority behaving the way she did.

Really good mystery. With each chapter the story rose in intensity until the final pages. All characters in the book were extremely believable as were all of the incidents. Highly recommend this book.

Oh, about 4-5 hours ago I started to read this book. And I could not out it down. Erika Foster, a kick ass woman detective coming back to the job after dealing with personal tragedy, is handed a high profile case of young girl. discovered in the ice. She works the clues and the case with intelligent ferocity and little regard for herself or politics. Characters are well drawn and the plot tight. Highly recommended!

3.5 stars

I had quite high expectations before I started reading this book due to all those 5 and 4 star ratings. Unfortunately The Girl In The Ice didn't quite live up to them, but nevertheless I kind of liked it. I wouldn't call it a page turner, but yet I wanted to know who commited those murders. What was bothering me a little bit about this book was that I just never really started to like any of the characters, I kind of just felt a little indifferent to them, but well, that's probably just me. Also, the book didn't really have a twist or the "I-can't-believe-that's-the-murderer"-moment. But again, that's just me, and probably due to my high expectations. So, all in all, this was a pretty enjoyable read that unfortunately couldn't keep me on the edge of my seat and that's why I'm giving it 3.5 (3) stars.

I'd also like to thank NetGalley, Robert Bryndza and Bookouture for providing me this free ebook!

I enjoyed this one. I get what all the fuss has been about now. It’s a solid police procedural with a kick ass main character, Erika, who has a few likable flaws and is kind of a smart ass.

I found myself struggling to get through this book. I loved Erika and all the other characters but it lost me after half way. I pushed through it and was surprised with the ending but it's not as thrilling and dark as I hoped for.

Ik kwam er niet goed in, te korte spanningsbogen.
