This book was received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Having never read any of Toma's other stuff, but hearing awesome things, I thought I'd give this one a try. You've definitely now got a fan, and I'm excited to see more of this, the political intrigue side very interesting on top of some really good characters. I've been reading a lot of different manga lately, and this one calls back to the stuff I loved back in high school, the ones that are still my absolute guilty pleasure series. It also vaguely reminds me of the dynamics in Rising of the Shield Hero, but not in a bad way. I'm curious to see where this goes, and the characters are awesome.

This was so interesting! I loved the fantasy elements and I’m excited to see the romance grow in the series. I picked this up on a whim from my library and now I’m even more intrigued to continue with the series.

A good start to the series that sets up an interesting premise. Definitely curious as to what happens next, but not certain yet if this will be one that I plan to read all the way through.

***Edit: I have read through vol. 6. While I enjoyed it up to that point, Vol. 6 took a turn that I am simply not comfortable with continuing. I will still leave all other ratings/review notes as they were originally. If you have questions as to content, please DM me.

Uh oh... I’m in love with the fourth prince.

Edit 10/8/21: Rei Toma is one of my favorite mangakas! The story, the art, the subtlety! I love the direction the plot is going in. It's an intriguing murder mystery. I love that even though Rengetsu is prickly, she draws all these characters in with her honesty and hope.
