Moving. Just as if not more horrifying than Twelve Years a Slave. Everyone should read this.

An amazing, intimate account of slavery in the south. It is one thing to understand slavery in the abstract and another thing entirely to read such a personal account of it. Douglass has eloquently articulated the evils of slavery

This was one of those books that I was assigned but never read during highschool. Glad I returned to it now.

read for class, well written and insightful

One of the best pieces of literature I've ever consumed in my life. At times I was close to tears and at others I was filled with hope and a sense of thankfullness for what I have. There's an audiobook version of it on Spotify that I will recommend to everyone.

Very fascinating look into the world of a slave. he tends to distance himself from that past yet embrace it for his fellow slaves. Highly recommend if you would like a look into the psychology of slavery.
