She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World by Chelsea Clinton – A cute and inspiring compilation of women of courage. Happy Reading!

I bought this because the illustrations are so lovely that I wanted to add it to my art book collection. I picked it up this evening and was utterly charmed by the writing and moved by the women Clinton chose to include. This book does not cover all the standard "Important American Women". I was so excited to see Florence Griffith Joyner, Sonia Sotomayor, and Claudette Colvin included.

I appreciated the care Clinton clearly took to include women of impact who are frequently left out of history books. While there are some groups unrepresented, Alexandra Boiger makes sure to include little girls from all walks of life in the illustrations.

I loved it. Will definitely be referencing this on days when I need something to boost my spirits.

Great picture book for older kids featuring strong female role models... Also love the dedication to Elizabeth Warren!

Would make a great gift! :)

So lovely. One I need to own, I think.

Cute, though fairly simplistic. I'd have appreciated a bit more biographic info. Still, a pretty good diverse mix of American women. POC representation could have been better (6 white women, 5 black women, 1 Native woman, 1 Latina woman). There's disability rep with Helen Keller, and LGBT+ rep with Sally Ride (though her bio does not mention her sexuality).

5 stars | "They persisted and so should you".

I cried in public reading this book. I literally burst into tears in the middle of the children's section of a local Barnes and Noble and cried.

I cried for my mom. I cried for all my foremothers. I cried for my sister. I cried for my heroines. I cried for my friends, my sorority sisters, my teachers, my therapist, my professors, my coworkers. I cried for all the little girls all over the world who have been told no because of their gender.

The gratitude I feel for the thirteen women in this book was so overwhelming to me. Every American life has been infintely improved by these women who would not take no for an answer to their dreams.

What Ms. Clinton did in this book was restore my hope and faith in myself and my dreams. I am thankful that she wrote a book like this that I can show my nieces (and maybe future daughters) to remind them that they are valid and worthy. Their ideas and dreams have merit. There is no sense in wasting their worth if they choose to persist.
