”Never again. Never again would she be weak. Never again would she be at someone’s mercy. Never again would she fail. Never again, never again, never again.”

Gosh I loved this book so much! I loved the sweet story of friendship & unconditional love reflected in these pages with Nesta & Gwyn & Emerie. I feel like this book had great representation on the effects of trauma & depression. While Nesta was in her darkest season, I felt so much empathy for her & could connect so well to her thoughts and feelings. Ready to see the next book that Maas cooks up!

(TW: for rape, sexual abuse, murder, war, pregnancy complications, etc. also very heavy on the smut!)

Okay...that was a lot.
Overall I loved this book. I felt like Nesta's journey was written so well and took so much time - like it was really great how it wasn't too easy, it really showed her progress and setbacks repeatedly, which felt realistic. Also her and cassian - yum. But then all of a sudden it was like she realized she'd written 680 pages and suddenly had to wrap it up and then crammed everything into the last 70 pages. There's so much left unresolved - like the entire autumn court, Tamlin, the rumbling war... like I need her to write more asap. Also as much as I loved the story, I missed hearing about Rhys, Feyre, and the rest of the people in the central group. I wish it'd been more balanced.
Having said all that I feel like the majority of the book was brilliant, which is why I gave it 5 stars - just an unsatisfying ending.

This series had me yawning at the first book and now crying while reading this one??? After reading ToG I was quite sure Sarah J. Mass could do it again, but I came to love this book dearly, even if Nesta was quite far from being my fave character.

The story about her depressed self, how structure, exercise, new friends and time to herself, helped her grow and heal resonated so deep with me. The shame and guilt portrayed in the book and how the three friends helped each other was just beautiful.
The pace at the end felt a bit fast and that Nesta had to offer herself twice to redeem herself (especially with Rhys) was a bit much to my liking. She'd deserve love also without offering her power or life imo.

All in all, this might be my favourite book of the series so far for all the awareness in the storytelling (wouldn't have thought I'd say that after the third one though lol) 💖
