A noir set during a little understood outbreak of epidemic disease, sort of Romeo and Juliet as a plot, and just enough nicknames to keep me guessing about everyone's intentions. Tightly written and sustains its energy from beginning to end. Definitely a genre work, but a really good one.

Romeo and Juliet in a dystopian run-down neighbourhood. The Redeemer wades through the filth, grit and disappointment of his own and other people's lives. A harder tone compared with Signs Proceeding the End of the World, but a compelling narrative nonetheless.

A Mexican noir(ish) novella set in the time of pandemic. A day in the life of a fixer who is tasked with negotiating the exchange of two youths each captured by rival criminal gang lords.

The writing (via translation) is tremendous. This author is clearly influenced by Cormac McCarthy. Recommend.
