The story was amazing and I found the protagonist's experience very relatable. The characters felt very realistic, especially compared to other books portraying 14-year-old boys. However, the ending of the story felt very rushed.

Heartwrenching. LGBTQ+ kids, and adults, will find themselves in Aiden and his struggle around his sexuality. The art perfectly matched the story. Perfect use of color to depict emotion.

"There is no "right" north, really. This is all about figuring out how to get where you need to go. It's not always straight forward. You have to figure out where you are in the world first, then adjust for the setbacks to find you way. We all feel lost sometimes."

my high school is currently attempting to ban this book so I had to read it for myself. I think every kid, confused about sexuality or not, should be allowed to read this if they want. the depictions of teenagers are nothing but accurate. it's relatable and has a great message. any struggling teen would be able to see part of themselves in Aiden.

(2.75 leaning towards 3 stars)
i really liked the symbolism behind the fire, even if it was pretty simple. i think the story started to pick up more towards the middle, but i still liked it. the religious themes were definitely pretty relatable, for me at least.
obviously the scenes involving masturbation made me uncomfortable, but i’m glad they didn’t drag on for an unnecessarily long time. i would’ve liked for ted to have had another appearance, maybe with a letter of some sort delivered to Aiden.

Excellent. I found the use of color to be very effective. Graphic novel is set in 1995. I’m glad we have had a number of societal changes so being gay is more accepted than it was, but we still have a ways to go.
