Was miserable the entire time and YES I GET IT I UNDERSTAND THE POINT ISN’T TO LIKE IT OR TO LIKE DOROTHY I GET IT but I also did not like it and that is MY duality. Anyway. This line goes hard:

From my mother, I learned that beauty was armor. From my teenage friends, I learned that femininity was junk. They were both right.

I’m sorry but I tried to like it but the author seemed overly concerned with using every pretentious large word in her vocabulary (like, I get it! His head was “brobdingnagian”! Did you really have to use that word more than once?) — Dorothy, I assume on purpose, was unlikeable in every aspect and I can’t help but think that the author was exorcising some of her own frustrations out h the through Dorothy’s annoyance in the evolution of the workplace and how long form content is essentially dead. Felt like everything was written for shock factor when it just became quite boring towards the end. The last few chapters felt rushed that I thought a chapter was missing. It was a quick read so I finished it, but it wasn’t a favorite. Don’t feel like I need to read it ever again.

If you love true crime, food, sex, and feminism? Read it right now. Then go watch The Menu. Similar vibes.

I read this book in a day. I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I do, but it’s one of those stories that truly grips you, especially because I haven’t read anything like it before. Make no mistake, the main character is not to be redeemable, however I sometimes found myself sympathizing with her (aside from…you know, the murder). It’s quirky in a dark way and seductively unhinged. If you want to read about a feral woman going on a killing spree and eating her ex-lovers, this one is for you.

I don’t really even know where to begin with my review. I did not care for the switches between past and present, it just wasnt very clean. I also found it dull at times and the character of Dorothy wasn’t particularly interesting imo. The novel does pick up closer to the end (Chapter 13 on), and I loved the ending!
