This book had a weird pace to it that felt very suited for younger readers...but the content didn't match. I'm not sure how else to describe it! It was a good story and I am excited for book 2, but so far I like the Caraval series better...

This was my first Stephanie Garber book, but definitely not my last. Once upon a Broken Heart is a delightful whimsical fantasy story with lots of twists and turns. I loved it.

This was very easy to read, fun, romantic tale of magic and whimsy. The cliff hanger definitely has me itching to get my hands on the next book when it comes out later this year!
My only qualm with this novel it’s that it’s writing style just skips from action to action without much build or atmosphere. While I love the story and it’s concept everything does seem oddly convenient and few to none of the plot devices require much work from the characters. I don’t feel like I know any of the characters very well including our MC (whose honestly a bit of a drag). I feel like I’m supposed to find our main “villain” hot but he feels like a bit of a selfish immature boy.
If it weren’t for the fact I like the story so much I would probably have rated it lower but I literally inhaled this book so I don’t know if it’s really a 3 or 4 star … probably a 3.75 star…
(Also, i believe this book would be better if it was NA not YA … just saying)
