Evangeline is probably the most naive and gullible FMC I've ever encountered. Her endless hope and blind optimism are probably endearing to some people, but I am not people. She really just made dumb decision after dumb decision, and I don't think there's a single part of me that could relate to her. Like, girl, please........I'm begging you to be even just a little bit discerning.

Anyways, despite finding the main character to be annoying, I was still engaged enough by the overall plot that I wanted to finish it. It was a whimsical and fast-paced fairytale and I love the vivid backdrop of the North. I also really liked Jacks—he's the most interesting character of the bunch and what ultimately saved this novel for me. He's a playful menace and I'm here for it tbh

I 100% get the hype on this book and hopefully series. If I thought I loved Caraval, this one took it to a whole new level. I already was obsessed with Jacks in the second and third Caraval books and my obsession remains. He is such a great enemy that will hopefully turn lover? He is charming, ruthless, sexy, funny, basically everything you could want. But then I am just as enthralled with Evangeline. She is such a refreshing take on a FMC. She is beautiful, soft, courageous, and such a good person. She is everything I want to see in a main character and not a fierce warrior like so many of the FMCs in fantasy are. I found her to be such a great protagonist and I cannot wait to see what happens next! This book was so twisty and turny I honestly have no idea where it’s going to go and I love that!

I went into this pretty blind and loved every second of it. After adoring the Caraval series so much I will check out anything Stephanie Garber writes and this series was just as magical and fun. It's a unique world and story that you can easily fall into. I loved the plot and absolutely loved the characters. Evangeline definitely had some moments where I wanted to shake her from making dumb decisions but I still enjoyed her character. The twists and turns of the romance is so much fun and that ending has me questioning everything and also truly excited for the next book.
