should have dnf'd after the first tea party scene but i was hoping for some sort of explanation or reasoning or justice for that level of grotesque violence and then it just escalated and petered out.

for what reason was any of that necessary? im a horror and gore enjoyer but that was just ridiculous

I need to re-read this book. I read it in high school and loved it. John Saul led me down the rabbit hole of scary books. So, I'm gonna read it again to see if the adult me still loves his work.

Well I really enjoyed that! A rather bizarre story, but I felt engaged the whole time. The atmosphere and setting of the book I thought was phenomenal. Definitely a weird and spooky one, so if you're not into that, this is probably not for you.

I don’t think I’ve ever said “wtf?!” during a book as much as I did with this one. It was a wild ride. I’d say it’s a little on the darker side (in my opinion) as it does contain animal abuse and child abuse, so please read with caution. ⚠️

Lots of good character development throughout but I will say, there was one thing that left me wondering why it was even included in the story but by the end, it made sense. I do feel there were other things that could have been tidied up in the end but overall, it was a good read.

This one's in omnipresent pov, and I'd missed this style a bit. It used to be fairly common in genre fiction. Otherwise, pretty nasty and had good suspense. Quality possession-ish story.

I read this one a really long time ago, but remember really liking it. I think that Saul is an often overlooked author when it comes to the horror/psy-thriller genre. He's really quite good. I'd stack his pacing up against the best of them.
