I usually love Meg Cabot’s writing, but I really didn't like the characters in this story. They just seemed so... shallow. The entire book is basically Lou repeatedly berating Jack for things that either are not even his fault or none of her business. I get that this was part of their love-hate relationship but it was so repetitive and cold that it just seemed plain rude rather than romantic. If that wasn't bad enough, she also bashes other women and mocks Jack for having any interest in
them because they aren't as smart as her. This constant critic of him and his past partners was what really made me angry, especially since one of her best friends was one of the people she was indirectly criticizing.

I also became quickly irritated with Jack's interest in Lou. All he does is repeatedly state how different she is from other girls because she ate dessert. Maybe its just me, but I think this mindset is so old and cliche. I don't like when people pit girls against one another and that's what this line is meant to do. Aside from this, Jack delivered some other pretty cringe-worthy lines that I couldn't help but roll my eyes at.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, but the constant shallowness and repetition really disappointed me. The only thing that saved the book was Meg Cabot's writing, which allowed me to quickly become immersed in the story. I gave it 3 stars for the writing, but everything else was just subpar.

I think if I had read this a couple of years ago, I would have liked it more, before I was pretty burned out with Chick Lit. Then again, there wasn't anything really in this book that stood out for me, so I'm not so sure I would have liked it even then. I like Meg Cabot a lot, but a lot of her stuff gets repetitive...which is understandable. What I like about the Boy series was the format. What I liked about the Lizzie series was the narrator. This book just seemed rather drab in comparison, though I think it was written first so perhaps it's just a case of an author getting a feel for writing.

With Meg Cabot books, I never know how well they'll age, but this one was still really fun. There's not the best attitude towards the female characters who aren't Lou (they're all appearance-obsessed and so forth), but thankfully Lou and Jack are stranded in the Alaskan wilderness alone for most of it, so that doesn't really matter. The side ship with the parents is super cute, the ship is great, and there were several lines that made me chuckle out loud. Not up to the standard of more recent Cabot novels but this is one I will definitely be keeping in my collection.

I've put off reading this novel for awhile... because of its cover. I know, I know, never judge a book by its cover. But I just didn't really like it. But, I got over it ever since I got into my Meg Cabot phase. It's just... awesome how her teen and adult fiction appeals to readers (and myself). This book seems so.. typical at first. Boy and girl despise one another. Boy and girl go through these hard struggles to learn that they actually have a sexual tension. Boy and girl are going to live happily ever after. But I don't exactly know what Cabot does to make it anything but typical. There are plot twists. There are hilarious, brave, confusing, emotional, courageous, starstruck side characters that add to the plot. It's just not your usual chick lit, I guess. Still I would only recommend it to only to chick lit readers. And even then, I liked her other ones better: Boy Meets Girl, The Boy Next Door and Every Boy's Got One.

Oh my gosh, I loved this book! I read it very fast while travelling. It was part of my institutes library of beach reads and I'm so happy I happened upon it.
This book reads a lot like a Jennifer Crusie contemporary, with a very clever female main character and lots of good action and comedy. I loved the quips and jokes and family members. Highly recommend.

This is exactly what I needed it to be. Fast paced, interesting, silly, and heart-warming. The chemistry was great, tbe writing was fun and easy, the hunor made me laugh out loud on occasion. And while the premise was absolutely ridiculous, it was a cute enough book that I was able to suspend disbelief and just enjoy it.

This is my very first Meg Cabot novel and I’m totally ready to try more. I really like the way she develops her characters - maybe that’s how I was able to enjoy this so much?? Because if the characters hadn’t been so well written I would have been less likely to put up with the cheesy drama and action sequences.

Maybe I’ll try the Princess Diaries books next...... I’ve been wanting to for ages.....
