Good, but not as good as Freak the Mighty.
adventurous lighthearted sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

Significantly less slurs in this one. I mean, they're there, but less so than the first. Thank goodness.
Now, why would she kiss him if they're siblings at the end? I don't like kids kissing in media and I especially don't like incest. Especially for a girl who's heavily implied to be a victim of childhood sexual assault?! Come on now.
Other than that, the book's not that bad.

Good grief, this book had me crying and laughing and all the feels!  Some of the book felt like a crazy adventure that could only happen in a book, but it was simply beautiful. Some scary moments that seem beyond realistic, and suddenly wise words of  truth for life would come from A character. An all around wonderful book.

If you do want to read more about Max and his life this book is worth reading. He is a unique kid and endearing character. However, the story line isn't as special or as interesting as the original book. I also found some of his experiences to be unrealistic.

Good sequel to Freak the Mighty. I was left worrying about Max and his identity after the death of Kevin in book 1, but Max really grew a lot as a person in this book. Well worth the read. The audiobook is 3 1/2 hours. The reader sounds horse for the first half. It gets annoying... just a heads up.

Sequel to Freak the Mighty.

Max rescues Worm from a bully and she dubs him Max the Mighty. Worm, aka Rachel, lives with her mother and her abusive stepfather. She is convinced that Max can help her find her real father, who will make everything okay.

The two set out on a cross-country quest with the police hot on their trail. Will Max find a way to be the hero that Worm needs?

I just didn't love it as much as [b:Freak the Mighty|8953|Freak the Mighty|Rodman Philbrick|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165847193s/8953.jpg|2049173]

Max the mighty was emotional but not as good as the first, Freak the Mighty. I gave it a 4 because even though it didn't have the same characters I loved it still had something to show for how Max turned out in the sequel.

My son was assigned this book in school and told me that I had to read it as soon as he finished. He really enjoyed the story of Max and Kevin and the unique friendship between the unlikely pair. I have to agree that it was well written and enjoyable. I'd love to be able to use it with some of my students.
