This batman story is a great example of what I love and hate about modern comics. The story is a cool concept of batman trying to get two face to a destination while every mercenary/assassin is after batman. The writing, characters, everything on Scott Snyder's end was great. However I don't know if this is Snyder's doing or DC's but I'm getting sick and tired of these secret origin stories and having retcon's again. I don't know if it's because of the rebirth launch or what but its frustrating. I don't want to spoil it but they changed Two-Face's and batman's relationship/origin again, which is very annoying. Also I'm not a fan of John Romita's art style either. Overall what should've been an amazing batman book but it was dragged down by retcon's and an mediocre art style

This one asked too much. I can suspend my disbelief to a point, but this one didn’t make sense.

Every single person has a secret they would kill to keep? Doubtful.

Batman dragging Two-Face halfway across the country to find a cure? Silly.

Batman being beaten to a bloody pulp and should have died ten times over? Because I’m Batman!

It was fine. Would have been a good bus book. But man, I don't understand how this civilization is at all sustainable.

Was really looking forward to this and was really disappointed. Don't know if I'll continue with the next two volumes.

First, let me say that I am a huge fan of Scott Snyder. His “American Vampire” series was excellent, and his run on Batman completely revolutionized the character.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t do it for me. The biggest we distraction for me was the artwork. I am not a fan of John Romita Jr. His art just does not appeal to me The was Greg Capullo or Jim Lee do (to name a few).

Scott Snyder gets Batman. He understands the character, but I can’t say the same for his understanding/interpretation of Two-Face. The relationship between Harvey and Bruce seems manufactured and hard to believe.

This odyssey that they are on to try and “cure” Two-Face takes a long time, but they don’t seem to get anywhere. There doesn’t seem to be a real conflict that needs to be resolved.

The backstory by Snyder and Declan Shalvey was a bit better, but I was still not thrilled with it. I haven’t read much with Duke Thomas in it, but I miss the old team. Give me Dick, Tim, or even Damian any day.

With Snyder and artist Jock on the second volume I am bound to read it. Fingers crossed that it is better...

Wow. Inexplicably terrible. Hack use of jumping back and forth in story-time, horrible character motivations. I really expect more from Snyder.

I'm disappointed in this, and I still gave it a 3. Just goes to show the weight of expectations.

And I did have expectations for this. Snyder's work on Batman stands up there with some of the best comics around. But ever since Wytches, I've felt like Snyder has reached far more than he delivered. This was too messily esoteric; felt like we only had half of the actual story Snyder wrote, which was scraped for JRJR art that did. not. mesh. at all. Never want to see his work on a main title at DC again.
