Cute, fun, love, forgiveness, family. Fast read - partially because I was on a tight return deadline and partially because it was just one that sucks you in and easy to read.

It’s not the easy moments that define who we are. It’s the hard ones."

Cassie Hanwell has not had an easy life as a firefighter trained as a paramedic. She has not had an easy life for a lot of traumatic events but keeping strong and keeping on is her motto.

This is a reread for me, and honestly is my fave Katherine Center book.
It has everything :
Fierce strong FMC who is in a career dominated by men and chose to go to Boston to help her mother. Boston Fire is dominated by men and they try to scare her away from day one , but she kept on going. Therese Plummer has this perfect Holly Hunter voice that is made for this book.
no notes, the narration was pure chef kiss.

Her mother left her on her birthday as a teen. There is a lot of hurt in Cassie's heart but it is a beautiful thing watching her heal , and grow in an adult relationship with her mom.

Her mom is dying, but she doesn't know , until everything seems to come crashing down.
Her relationship with the cinnamon roll sunshine Rookie will make you laugh .Will make you cry. Will make you fall in love with the couple.

Her relationship with even the hardest member of her squad brought tears to my eyes. A veteran on the force that she stood up to, even in the face of adversity and was on his side for him . That was pure courage.

Choosing to love—despite all the ways that people let you down, and disappear, and break your heart. Knowing everything we know about how hard life is and choosing to love, anyway.. That’s not weakness, that’s courage."

Cassie Hanwell is courage personified. I hope she is a returning character someday in another Katherine Center book.
