I think I enjoyed the first book in the series better just bc the dynamic between Zade and Adeline just didn’t feel as real and felt more shallow in this book. This book also felt slower in terms of plot but also rushed towards the end. It felt like the author rushed a bit to finish it towards the end; like too much time was given to the first half of the book and the second half fell flat in comparison.

Haunting Adeline (in my opinion) felt bland it was the same as Satan’s Affair (in my opinion) as it focused on the sex more than the connection between Zade wanting Adeline to cal in love with him and don’t get me started on Gigi’s murder which was shocking when it turns out that Nana and Serena (Adeline’s mother) knew who did it. But in Haunting it felt lacking. Plot wise. I would’ve enjoyed it if the author focused on the plot more than getting her characters to be in the same room together and potentially fuck.

HOWEVER—

Hunting Adeline was a MAJOR improvement in that. Now that Adeline wasn’t near Zade it focused on her story trying to escape and survive throughout her kidnapping, the Culling, the rapes, and even the murders she had to do during her captivity. And Zade (still being obsessed with Adeline) had a new side to him that made me have a soft spot for him. The once #Zadehater had now turned to a lover for him seeing how hurt he was to have failed to protect Adeline. There were some cringey moments like when he carried a whole hospital mattress on his back or him saying stuff like “I’m the darkness” but I’ll forgive him for that. I loved seeing Adeline grow a back bone and not like in Haunting where she did things without thinking I mean the Adeline Reilly who killed Sydney just so she had the chance to escape. The Adeline Reilly who killed her mother and father’s captors. The Adeline Reilly who killed her own captors and recreating the Culling to scare shit out of them. And Zade throwing Caroline into the fire. BEAUTIFUL. That’s the Adeline I like not the “I’ll do it despite me knowing it’s a bad idea” I was cheering and screaming for Adeline which I never thought I would do. I loved this book and now I love the series. I especially loved seeing Zade proposing to Addie with no diamonds it was sweet.

The spice was different. I didn’t expect to get embarrassed at the idea of blood play. Usually when you hear that you think “Who would like that? That’s so weird.” That’s until you read it and see how Zade uses the blood to comfort Addie after Xavier cut her up while he raped her. So it was shocking (not in a bad way). Also the scene where Zade pleases Adeline in front of Xavier during the Culling making Xavier all mad because Adeline never moaned his name was PHENOMENAL. I didn’t like when Zade said he took Adeline’s IUD only for him to her that he never did it just ruined the whole scene for me. The Epilogue chapter however tops everything for me especially after Zade proposes to Addie.

Too traumatising. I liked book 1 for the dark romance. Book 2 had no romance and too graphic descriptions of Addie’s torture

Again, I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Really sick, descriptive and has you turning the pages like crazy. Couldn’t put it down. Broken down into 2 parts, first part is hard to read sometimes due to the situations in the book, but second part is a little bit lighter. DEFINITELY read the trigger warning page at the front of the book before starting it to see if it’s something you can spend your time reading.
