I absolutely loved this book.
Was a nice pace, quite fast at times, i like it going from different perspectives, and I completely didnt guess the ending. I loved the characters both of Bobby and Lainey. Really felt for poor Lainey and all she had to put up with, with her disfuncional family. And Bobby was a very good guy, and was happy that at the end there was a happy ending for him.
Its a rare treat for me not to be trying to guess the bad guy from the start, I got so into the story I totally didnt even think about who the bad guy was. I was surprised who it was kinda obvious lol
I had never read anything by this author before but I will definately be reading more from her in the future, the book was fantastic.

I have wanted to read Pretty Little Things for awhile now so tonight I began to read it.Took me 3 hours.
Pretty Little Things is definetely a serious book. Jilliane Hoffman discusses issues that happen everyday involving Teenagers and how social media like Myspace, Facebook, Yahoo and every other social interaction site and how teenage girls and boys fall victims to rapists, pedophiles and predators.
This was hard read because of the issues I have discussed above and the sick and twisted mind of this predator.Despite all of this, I found this book truly gripping and it definitely had me guessing til the end. A good read and I would recommend any parent to read this book and to talk to their kids about online interactions to people they dont know.

I always enjoy Jilliane Hoffman's writing style! She creates excellent plots and terrific characters. I've read a lot of crime books in my time, including the types that center around twisted serial killers like this one, and this is one of the better ones. I thought it would overly graphic but it wasn't. It isn't sweetness and sunshine, but it's not as bad as it could be. There was a great plot twist at the end that I did not see coming. Didn't even guess until close to the reveal. That was a nice surprise. I like when authors spring something on you that you didn't suspect. 4.5 stars for this one.
Absolutely captivating. I could not put this down. The only thing that prevented me from giving 5 stars was that there was a bit too much legal jargon for me. I know that it's often necessary for the back story but I found myself skimming those bits. Highly recommended for suspense and thriller fans. It is a bit of a touchy subject matter, but you can surely get that from the synopsis. I hope Hoffman writes more novels featuring Dees.
Agent Dees is the officer in charge of locating runaway teens in Miami. His job is taxing, to say the least, as young girls go missing at an alarming rate and many do not want to be found. Some are escaping domestic abuse, others go on drug benders and some are lured away by internet trolls who have lewd plans for them. But he diligently leaves no stone unturned and tries to give their families closure, no matter what the result.
In his search for 14 year old Lainey, he finds himself in a serial killer investigation where clues to the locations of dead, mutilated girls need to be puzzled together to find them. He is doubly tormented as the Picasso killer starts taunting him with evidence about his own daughter's disappearance.
The first chapters are told from young Lainey's perspective which nearly had me putting the book down, thinking I had a dreaded "Young Adult" book in my hands. But soon enough the perspective changed to that of Agent Dees (and the killer, other young girls, his wife, etc) and this became a crime thriller. The downsides for me were the parts written in 'cop-speak' and the fact that the novel was wrapped up so tidily at the end. It is hardly a subject where you can end the book with Happily Ever After but somehow Hoffman does.

I love all of Jilliane Hoffman books and this was no exception. Great thriller.
4 Stars
Bobby Dees, an investigator who heads up the Crimes Against Children squad in Miami, is called in to investigate a possible endangered runaway. Lainey Emerson is missing. She's the thirteen year old middle child of a family who has had their share of run-ins with the police already. Her older sister has a history of running away and she's also had problems with substance abuse. Her mother works too much and her step-father favors his own child over another man's problem, Lainey and her sister. Lainey didn't come home one Friday night after saying she was going to a movie with a friend. She wasn't reported missing for two days and the local police and even her family are writing her off as a runaway, but they call in Special Agent Dees anyway just to make sure they cover all the bases and cover their own asses in the process.
Special Agent Dees has been the savior of many missing children. Bringing them home when all hope seems lost. But the one child he couldn't bring home was his own daughter. Now as it nears the anniversary of her disappearance, another missing child is found dead. Her death and location depicted by the killer after he sent a painting to to show the police, especially Bobby Dees, what he's done.
This book is full of twists and turns. I wasn't expecting many of the things that happened. The author kept me on my toes and always guessing. I think that some may be able to untangle the web and figure out who the killer is or there may be others, like me, that just went along for the ride and had a blast with this mystery.
This one won't be for everyone, it is about missing children and violence against young people. That's not everyone's cup of tea and while the violence isn't overly descriptive, your imagination can run with it and figure it out. Those of us with children can find this an uncomfortable position to be in when we're imagining this happening to our own daughters. Definitely a solid mystery and suspense novel worthy of taking a chance.
