Wow this book was intense! I loved it though. It was a great story with great characters, minus Reed of course. Definitely recommend this book. The story felt so real and is definitely relevant to every day life.
This book is amazing and wonderful and I love it so much. Really got some of the small town TN vibes right, and personally I really appreciate that.
But the last fourth of this book is a ride, and I don't think I've ever been so close to breaking a book, I was gripping it so tight. It was so intense.
Highly recommend!

Peyton is an aspiring soccer player, heading to college with a spot on the team. When she discovers a secret her boyfriend is hiding, she confronts him. She ends up falling down the stairs, causing a serious knee injury, jeopardizing her spot on the soccer field. She says she was pushed, but no one believes her. She decides to go live with her uncle in order to rehab her knee but ends up meeting a boy named Owen, who she can't seem to stay away from.
I related to Peyton so much on a personal level. I too had a career-ending injury, not as traumatic as hers, but I can definitely relate to that feeling of lost identity. I also relate to the end of her relationship, as mine went down the same way (minus the fall down the stairs). I like how she refused to entertain her abusive ex-boyfriend, but I wish she had asked for help when he began stalking her. I also like how this dealt with the aftermath of speaking up in a realistic way. Sometimes, people don't believe you and that can be scary when you know you're speaking the truth, but I love how Peyton stood up for herself and refused to back down about what she knew happened to her. I love how she had a support system around her as well. Owen was also a great love interest, and I really liked the slow-burn between them. I like that he was patient and didn't push Peyton into anything she didn't want to do. I also love how he helped her work through the emotions of losing her father. The twins were definitely my favourite characters of the story, they were just so loyal and adorable. The girl-on-girl hate was a bit annoying, feeling very tropey because it involved the bitchy cheerleaders... but I did like how Peyton developed a positive friendship with Grace in the end.
Overall, a fast read, dealing with some heavier topics, but is very well done!

“It’s two seconds. Maybe less. But when a boy looks at you like he’s drowning and you’re the only person who saw him fall in, it feels like forever.”
I did not expect to love this book the way I did. It was so clean yet so messy, so absolutely heart-wrenching yet hopeful. I think the reason why I love this book way more than I should’ve is simply because it was so relatable. A few years ago, I could easily see myself as Peyton, and even now that I think about that— I’m still left with a sense of disbelief. Garcia wrote these intense feelings so authentically, I think I cried a few times throughout reading this book.
I think the best part of Broken Beautiful Hearts is how it conveys an uplifting message to girls and at the same time, a romance worth swooning over. Most romance books I usually read consist of girls not being like other girls, the rest of the girls being two-dimensional, makeup obsessed cheerleaders out to get the protagonist for simply existing. Either that, or a lone girl protagonist being surrounded by a bunch of guys, the rest of the girls just extras to fill some quota or paint a background. But Garcia writes mean girls, nice girls, girls helping girls, so naturally it’s easily a reflection of real life. One of my personal favorites in this book is Peyton and Grace’s easy friendship, and how Grace was the first person Peyton ever felt safe of opening up about what happened to her. Garcia could’ve easily given this to Owen to strengthen their relationship but she chose Grace, and in doing that, it just bumped this book to my personal favorites.
Grace's eyes go wide and tear up. She points at my brace. "That's how—?"
"Yeah." Seeing Grace on the verge of tears triggers the same reaction in me. I press the inside corners of my eyes and take a deep breath to hold them back.
I mostly forget that it’s possible to write this while writing about romance at the same time because so few books do so. In the romance spectrum, Peyton and Owen are definitely one of the healthiest relationships I’ve read in YA romance for a while. Their dynamic is very easy to follow, and I just love the natural progression of their relationship.
"So this thing between us is a mistake?" His eyes search mine. "Because the way I feel when I'm with you feels like the opposite of every mistake I've ever made."
I don't want to admit the truth, not even to myself. But I find the courage to say it.
"Me too."
Over the years, I started straying from romance books like this and go for ones that are more... unconventional. Truth be told, I forgot how much I enjoy this type of romance until I read this book, and while it’s not perfect to some, I truly see no flaws in it. Definitely one of my favorite books this year —probably of all time— 5/5 will highly recommend.
PS.
I don’t have a crazy ex-boyfriend (thank gods) but there was this incident in high school where I was stalked by this guy who happened to like me. I thought it was harmless until it escalated to the worst, and I didn’t want to report it because it seemed like too much trouble and in a way, I also thought it wouldn't really do anything. This went on for weeks because when I told my ‘friends’ about it, they thought I was overreacting. But a girl acquaintance I had grown close to over the semester learned about it and encouraged me to report it, we did and it was taken care of mostly. I remember how his friends whispered loudly deliberately when I’m around but I’m glad I got to report it in the long run. Okay, that was emotional— emotional sesh over.
PPS.

This book was awesome. I really connected with the characters, and enjoyed getting to know them. And not just the main characters, the secondary ones too.
The depth of this story, and the truth of it, the fact that these things happen to people, really hits home. There are so many layers to this story, and to read the author note at the end, makes it even more personal.
Peyton was a strong female lead, I really liked her, and I loved Owen too. The twins were fab and Grace and Tucker were also great friends and added to the storyline.
I recommend this book, for sure. The many facets to it, and the realness to it, have you hooked and wanting to find out what will happen. Its high school, but its not. Its real life and serious issues as well. No one should have to go through what these characters go though, but seeing how they deal with it, learn and grow, is a really part of this story and how it all unfolds.
I won’t say much else, because the book speaks for itself. Well done Kami Garcia.

Inhalt: Eine Partynacht verändert Peytons Leben komplett.
Meinung: Das deutsche Cover gefällt mir gut.

This book didn't make my favorites list but I didn't make my hate list either. When I read the excerpt was so into it, I wanted it right then and there. It just didn't capture my heart like some of the other books I read.
I found myself liking a majority of the characters but it was really the Twins that stole my heart. They stole the show in this novel with their big hearts and fighting frenzies. The ending wasnt the perfect HEA but it was a decent realistic one. Kuddos to the author for pulling that off. Nothing about the setting really drew me in, not the town, the people, or the town's culture. If I'm to be honest it was almost cookie cutter YA novel. Which don't get me wrong is fine by me, it just earned this book a 3 star.
The storyline (And we hear this a lot) was promising. It had edge, hit on some topics that I don't really find in a lot of YA reads that I read, and it had that great guy who was boyfriend/husband material. However at some times it just seemed like it was too perfect. Owen came off as too perfect, too understanding, too committed, and too unrealistic. I also wanted his "situation" to be explored more, but that's just me.
Peyton I loved and I kind of hated. Loved you she stood up for the weaker man, how she kept her head up in hard times, how she spoke her mind, and finally how much of a strong character she was. You don't really see that a lot with novels now days. The girls are always the damsel in distress who always needs a guy to realize their self-worth. With Peyton, not the case and I love Garcia for making her the strong type. Yet at times she annoyed with not wanting to accept help from anybody and seeing it as a sign of weakness on her end. She also came off as a hypocrite too and was a little too harsh on Owen and the Twins. And her BFF was a *****.
In conclusion this book was an ok read, it just didn't leave me wanting more and I wasn't at all disappointed when it ended. So yeah.
