This reminds me of the Navy Seals series she wrote IF the MMC seemed to loathe the FMC and was very unlikable. He gets with OW within the first 10% after the FMC expresses her interest in him. He belittles her, laughs at her, manipulates her, treats her like she’s an idiot, etc. Gross.

The plot seemed so interesting. I love dystopian stories. This one just isn’t doing it for me.

Read because of HBs. This feels like a post-apocalyptic version of Elle Kennedy's erotic Out of Uniform series. I was NOT expecting this to have so much sex and like kinky sex, I was thinking it'd be more like Claire Kent's Kindled series. I wasn't a huge fan of her Out of Uniform series because they lean more towards erotica and don't have the most substantive plots. This series feels the same way. There's some world-building but it's not entirely thought out. Like this is set in the future where there was global warming and the ocean has risen so there's a lot less land mass, overpopulation and starvation are real issues, civilization largely collapsed and this government called the Council took over. Their form of government is definitely communist. Everyone earns the same regardless of what they do. The twist is that medicine and healthcare are withheld only for those in the top government and the Enforcers (like the KGB).

Hudson used to be an honorary enforcer with her twin brother Dominick (old men can be Enforcers truly, but her dad turns out to be the head of the Council) until he starts acting strangely and she runs away to live among the outlaws outside the city. Anyone who lives outside the city are basically outlaws or bandits. She encounters this group of ridiculously handsome, dangerous men: Connor (the leader), Rylan (the playboy), Xander (the techy), Pike (the strong silent one), and Kade (he's barely in this book). Connor and Hudson are instantly attracted to each other. After a bandit attack on a bar he takes her back to their base where she tries to fit in and discovers her sexuality. There's a lot of scenes with her, Conner, and Rylan together.

We meet Lennox who co-runs a bar with Jamie. There's a bit of a love triangle since Jamie is secretly in love with Rylan and Lennox is secretly in love with Jamie. Tamara is a smuggler who instantly recognizes Hudson must be an enforcer since she looks just like Dominick.

The main plot / conflict is that Connor's wife was killed by Dominick, he thinks, it turns out to be Knox, and Hudson has to hide that she's related to Dom because Connor will hate her. They do some raids on an enforcer base for supplies and the whole time Connor is trying to track down Dom to kill him. Simultaneously Knox is hunting for Hudson because after her father died it was revealed that he set up a marriage contract between her and Knox. We learn that it was Dom who helped her escape initially. Knox does track her down and takes her back after Connor kicked her out when he learned her relationship to Dom. But then he's guilty and goes to rescue her. They kill Knox, he lets Dom live, and Dom and Hudson learn that all the enforcers have been receiving aggression drugs in the 2 years since their father's death. Dom plans to stay in the enforcers to try to enact change from the inside.

It's too bad Kennedy didn't continue this series. I'm not planning to read any of the other books since it'll never be finished.

This book was a little too smutty for me. I understand the reasoning behind it as it is meant to emphasise the post-apocalyptic setting created but there were more sex scenes then actual story content and it was just a bit much for me. If it was not for the last third of the book where the story line trumped the sex, I would have rated the book two stars. I thoroughly enjoyed the various characters as well as the plot of the story and I am glad that each book in this series focuses on the different characters.

This was...weird?
Or
Just
Different.
Straight of erotica in MO
I also didn't realize that there's a three way happening on the reg
But cool I just wasn't expecting it. I picked it up for 1 and even though All the sex could be over the top and had me rolling my eyes you can't beat that price

This story takes place in a post-war America, where people in power have made the citizen's "safe" by controlling what and where they eat, where they live, who gets healthcare (basically no one unless you are a high-ranking official or in the military), who procreates and when and forces people to be married by a certain age. How could this go wrong! lol! If you are not a part of the group, then you are an outlaw that live outside the city walls and must survive the best way that they can with military groups constantly hunting them. The outlaw groups live every day as if it is going to be their last and hold nothing back including their sexuality.

Hudson is a member of the founding families of the town. She has been taught to take care of herself and has survival skills. When she finds out that her deceased father left behind a marriage contract for her to marry one of the lieutenants that also happen to be a rapist and murder, she figures out a way to leave the city. She quickly realizes that her survival skills are not enough to keep her alive and she is going to need help but must conceal her identity because outlaws will kill her if they find out who her family is . She meets Conner and his group at a bar where they save several people's lives. She tries to go with them, Conner does not want to take in strays. They eventually agree to let her come to their camp. While there, she learns many things and of course has a huge crush on Conner. A sexual relationship begins. Many things happen at this point that I will not spoil! But I will mention that this book has a lot of sex in it including multiple partners so if that is not your cup of tea.....this is probably not one for you!

When I previewed this from the library, I thought it was going to be a dystopian romance that was a bit dirty and raunchy at times judging by the first couple chapters. Nope. Misjudged by quite a long shot. Far too erotic for my senses.

LOVED this book. Elle Kennedy has created an amazing dystopian world that was super fun and sexy to dive into! Really looking forward to book 2!

Too much on the sex, not enough on the plot.
