Mike Birbiglia is a comedian and yes, a number of his jokes are in the book, but it expands on them, and has the stories behind them. There is also a pretty good story about Mitch Hedberg about the first time Mike met him, and also parts of memorial services for Mitch.
Some comedians write books and it ends up just being their jokes on paper, but this book is actually a lot more, and one of the better of the types I have read.

I LOVE Mike Birgiglia. He's often referred to as a comedian. I see him as storyteller extrordinaire. MikeB's stories are honest, down to earth, insightful, and seem to come from a place that shows much bravery on his part. I appreciate that. Ya...I did literally laugh out loud more than a few times whist reading this book. More often than that, I took away a life lesson that I will hold with me for a long time. MikeB seems like a good man who knows the right thing to do. We can all learn from him.

It was ok. Sometimes it was funny. I read it in his voice but I think I'd rather just have listened to him telling the same stories as standup.

I dig Mike, but I think I prefer listening to his stories than reading them.

So good to laugh (or at least chuckle under the covers). Though I didn't realize it when I put this book on hold, once I got to the "make out" chapter, I realized I had heard Birbiglia's teenage make out stories on This American Life. It was just as funny reading it at night (and then a second time as I made my husband read it) as it was hearing it on the car stereo on our last road trip. Hilarious!! Thanks for making me laugh.

Mike Birbiglia is my all-time favourite comedian, and I was already very familiar with the contents in this book but it didn’t make it any less enjoyable. In fact it made it even better because I read it and could hear him in my head as I was reading. If you’re a Mike Birbiglia fan, read this! I also can’t wait to read “The New One” when it comes out.

I enjoyed the stories Birbiglia has placed in the book but something was missing... That something was him telling the stories himself. It helps that I've heard him tell parts of the sleepwalking bit already (La Kin-Ta!) and can usually picture his delivery. But not always and that leaves me wondering what I'm missing.
