I liked this book a lot. Starr has a great voice and I really liked the dynamic she had with her family. Her day to day problems will probably resonate with a lot of teenagers, and the story of the police shooting and its aftermath is sensitive and well-told.
It does feel like the book is trying to do a bit too much; Starr’s relationship with her boyfriend isn't really dealt with too much and sometimes just felt like a way to shoehorn in a nice white person.
Overall I would recommend this book.
