I wasn't scared nor was I entertained. I did not care for this book and especially did not like the fact that it just ended.

“I glimpse you through the ages, for such is the power of my Dark Lord. You have done nothing, and yet you shall suffer. And yet you, too, are chosen.”

If you are familiar with Rob Zombie then you will know exactly what kind of a read this is. A story about witches and hunters from the past seeking revenge of those of the present. In Salem, a descendant of a witch seeks revenge upon those who did the coven wrong in 1692. Heidi Hawhorne, a recovering addict and host of a rock radio station receives a record with the title The Lords. As a joke she plays it on air and what soon follows are ritualistic killings all over Salem. This is the beginning of a grotesque and truly horrific story.

I have watched Rob Zombie’s films many times, the book in comparison to the film is different but I can see why there are some difficulties with it. It is an outright horror novel, there is a lot of gore and many harrowing scenarios which will unsettle the reader however at times it did feel like reading the script to the film.

Having said that I did enjoy it, is it better than the film? in some ways it was. It is not a book for everyone but I would recommend it for those who have seen the film or are planning on watching it for a comparative view of the story about these witches.

This book is pretty forgettable. Not awful, but the plot really didn't introduce any kind of intriguing detail to set it apart from the abundance of other Salem witch trail horror stories. That said, if you're interested in this particular story, the movie version is probably a better way to go.

2.5. Had high hopes, and kept reading hoping for something, anything, to happen aside from repetitive dream sequences.

After watching the movie I was a little apprehensive as to what the book would be like. I have to say I was surprised. The book was so much better! I loved all the details, and all the extra scenes that were left out of the movie. I definitely would recommend that everyone read this.

I was slightly disappointed with this novel. I was looking forward to it because I love everything Rob Zombie. I had hoped that turning one of his films into a book would be great as well but this seems more hastily slapped together so it could come out in junction with the movie's release. There are good moments of course but, there are more times were I was either confused or simply just wanting the book to end. This book could have been much better written in my opinion if they'd spent more time on it.
