This book led me to understand something about what I want from friends and partners. What family can be. What belief and trust in each other looks like. Artistically, it's a masterpiece. Every panel is a painting.
The art of the Staircase is especially beautiful. Every time a sunbeam shines through a window in this book, I want to be there to stand in it. I paused at the end of chapter 13 with the horrible premonition that someone (Elliot?) was going to die. I was almost right. I'm so glad I wasn't.

This is a second read through. Still such a sweet queer read.
I think Ell's storyline feels a bit unresolved and messy. I also don't love a non-speaking character revealed as speaking later. It gives a small whiff of abelism.
Still an excellent read and I'm excited to discuss it in book club.

Feels like a movie. Extra points for no men. Negative points for the art not being clear. It's very beautiful, but it should've had more color. Maybe that's the artist's style but many moments were hard to differentiate between things like characters and lighting because the color scheme kinda melds together.

Another great story from Tillie Walden! The beginning was a bit slow for me, but once the plot really started to roll I couldn't put it down! I loved all the backstory we got for the core five characters, and the last five chapters were extremely gripping at tense. A great read!

A quote I liked:
"And I did make it to you. It just took me five years." (p. 479-480).

I had high expectations for this book, and it was even better than I expected; I didn't expect it to be so dark and emotional. I was attached to this group of found friends, rooting for them each along the way and on the edge of my seat when things took a darker turn. I borrowed this one from the library but I may have to pick up a copy of my own because I feel like its one that I'll want to read more than once.
