The kind of book that built a universe I'll spend forever thinking about and trying to imagine myself in. Beautiful illustrations and beautiful portrayal of both platonic and romantic queer love. Made my heart feel full and even though I read the digital version I'm so excited to get my physical copy in the mail. Can't recommend it enough.

This beautifully imagined, queer sci-fi graphic novel follows its main character Mia in two timelines, in her early teens and as a new adult, through a complex universe of only female and nonbinary characters. The blurbs from Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, and Brian K. Vaughan hyped me up maybe too much…On a Sunbeam is gorgeously rendered, impressively told, and gently moving…but the melancholy mood paired with the lack of the warmth and humor I expected based on those blurbs left me a little cold.

This book led me to understand something about what I want from friends and partners. What family can be. What belief and trust in each other looks like. Artistically, it's a masterpiece. Every panel is a painting.
The art of the Staircase is especially beautiful. Every time a sunbeam shines through a window in this book, I want to be there to stand in it. I paused at the end of chapter 13 with the horrible premonition that someone (Elliot?) was going to die. I was almost right. I'm so glad I wasn't.

this was so freaking cute 🥺

I'm not really a sci fi girlie but I loved the atmosphere of the story and reading this graphic novel helped a lot with the imagery (I mean Tillie is definitely talented with the artwork). The story did start of kinda slow but everything started to pick when we learn more about the mc. My only other critique I wish we got some worldbuilding within other worlds. I'd definitely recommend reading this if you like graphic novels, looking for a sapphic story, or both. also reading this at (the middle of) night was definitely the vibes

Start to finish, a beautiful story. I may have teared up at the last two chapters. This story invites you in and hugs you from all around and takes its time peeling back the layers of the ship’s crew while the tea it made for you is seeping. It slowly molds into shape through captivating illustrations, dual timelines, and an imaginative look into Walden’s deep space. Seriously, the art and lore in this universe are beautiful!! There is Non-Binary rep, and also no depiction of men or anyone with the pronouns of “he” which I found interesting. I’m so happy to have read this and definitively want to read her other works!
