This beautifully imagined, queer sci-fi graphic novel follows its main character Mia in two timelines, in her early teens and as a new adult, through a complex universe of only female and nonbinary characters. The blurbs from Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, and Brian K. Vaughan hyped me up maybe too much…On a Sunbeam is gorgeously rendered, impressively told, and gently moving…but the melancholy mood paired with the lack of the warmth and humor I expected based on those blurbs left me a little cold.
Moderate: Death, Abandonment, Bullying, Colonisation, Injury/Injury detail, Medical content, Transphobia, Blood, Animal death, Violence, and Grief

Feels like a movie. Extra points for no men. Negative points for the art not being clear. It's very beautiful, but it should've had more color. Maybe that's the artist's style but many moments were hard to differentiate between things like characters and lighting because the color scheme kinda melds together.
Graphic: Abandonment and Bullying
Moderate: Blood, Deadnaming, Injury/Injury detail, Death of parent, Confinement, and Grief
Minor: Violence, Ableism, Trafficking, War, and Colonisation
