I wouldn't think this is the kind of book I would enjoy and yet I did. Maybe because there's this constant theme of "feeling lost" that is something that I can relate so much to.
The mc is unlikeable and i feel like you're supposed to judge her for her actions (which are terrible and keep spiraling). For some reason, I didn't. I felt almost empathy towards her. She has gotten herself into a life that doesn't feel like her own, it feels mostly that she can't quite tell how she got in it the first place. And after that, it's all just sort of a fever dream where she's just acting on impulse and letting her intrusive thoughts take hold.
And so despite all the bad bad stuff she did, there's a small part of me that can't stop thinking "good for her" and that's is thankful I got to go with her on this crazy ride.

This book...I think it was beautiful and frustrating, uncomfortable and thought provoking, sweet and funny with rough edges. It reminded me a lot of Juno if Juno had been a lot darker. There were some plot aspects that irked the shit out of me but the writing was genuinely really brilliant while maintaining simplicity. This little book has a lot of feelings a lot to say, packing a big punch.

Something I didn't know about this one going in is that it is actually set in 2011 and the characters carry around iPods. I miss this era and I was so pleased that a book put me back there.

Also I want to try pickles on pizza now.

Brilliant from cover to word to phrase to sentence to paragraph.

After wanting to smooth out her face lines in the previous page: "She laughed and her eyes got squinty, crinkled at the edges. I didn't want to smooth out all her lines." Chapter 2

"The folks at Vlasic are serious about keeping their shir airtight fresh!" Chapter 5

"We'd never sat next to each other before. She'd hugged me twice, but there was something more intimate about being close to someone and not touching. I could've counted the number of hairs on her arm if I'd wanted to and I kind of did." Chapter 6

Screams: "Jenny grabbed my hands again and this time didn't let go. I felt warmth and calluses. I wondered how she got them, what actions she'd committed to repeatedly that there was physical proof of them on her palms." Chapter 6

"Because the reality is, I've been to so many places and not a single one has saved me. And I need Los Angeles to save me." Chapter 6

"I could never understand how people were able to start conversations out of thin air and keep them moving and breathing." Chapter 7

"this simple fact made me ache in a place deep enough inside me that I wasn't sure how to claw it out without mangling other parts of me in the process" Chapter 8

".........  I realized how avoidance was the most attention you could give something." Epilogue

This was an interesting read for me, as I really couldn't relate to the main character and sometimes struggled to empathize with her. But I was invested in whatever the outcome for her may have been. I definitely look forward to reading more by this author.
