I read the first in this trilogy, The Last Call at the Nightingale, over two years ago. I was so captivated with the 1920s, Prohibition era time period, the speakeasy and New York City setting, and the addicting characters. I would have happily immersed myself in Vivian and Florence’s world for months, reading book after book after book. It is aggravating how, when your TBR is miles long, books you swore you’d read quickly get buried in the masses! This is another “Storygraph feature for the win” as the ever-refreshing To-Be-Read carousel on the homepage brought The Last Drop of Hemlock back to my attention.
Once again, Vivian and her sister Florence quickly pulled me into their lives and the investigation into the bodies that seem to drop around them. I found myself eager to listen, delighted to get to know both sisters and the rest of the cast of characters better, digging deeper into their lives and secrets. Once again, the time period, setting, and mystery led to an engrossing read.
This time, I did not let the grass grow under my feet before picking up the next book in the series. I immediately checked it out and started reading—and you know I’m serious about a book when I put it above a Kristin Hannah book I’d been eagerly awaiting!
