I LOVE The Wizard of Oz movie so I decided to pick up the book and give it a whirl. I had very low expectations, not really sure why, but this book was amazing. I'm almost mad it took me 29 yrs to read it!!

The movie and book don't even compare. Both are great in their own right but the book is far better. Dorothy goes on a big adventure, of course, but it's far greater and more things happen. You are introduced to ALL 4 witches even if it's super brief, there are way more lands she visits, and way more characters. :)

It’s almost unfair to compare this novel and the classic 1939 movie that was adapted from it, they are that different. The novel is more in the vein of Alice in Wonderland or a Grimm fairytale than the musical it was made into. In all honesty, I prefer the movie as I feel it was a pure distillation of all that is good and possible in filmmaking but the book is good in its own right but again so different that you almost have to erase your brain if you read the book after seeing the movie.

Not so keen on the audiobook voice actor. It was free so can’t complain too much but just not much variation between the characters and the accents, I guess you would call them, were over the top childish.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it would be hard having loved the movie so much but the book is great in other ways. Definitely will continue with the series.

The Oz books are one of my favorite books. I never read one tell I was 23 but now I can't get enough of them. I have read them all twice in the last two years. The amazing world that L. Frank Baum created is so beautiful. There are some inconsistencies in the stories if you get through enough of them be overall the wonderful world of Oz is someplace I think we should all visit at least once in our lives. I've already read these books once this year but I can't wait to read them again.
