I'm a fan of Jenny Slate, but had a hard time finishing this book. The essays are often so steeped in metaphor that I'd forget what she'd been talking about in the first place. There is so little that is concrete and substantive. She also overused certain images, which became irritating. For instance, a variation of "my tiny, little mouth" was used several times. This book felt like a vehicle to say, "I am weird and adorable and special." Not very compelling.

A bitter sweet, sobering comedy - all in one book.
Jenny Slate is the most delightful writer. The way she allows herself to be so openly vulnerable is admirable. Reading this was like living inside her brain for a little bit and also made me feel more at pease inside my own? The way she writes about deeply wanting love and feeling so sensitive made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
Well this was aptly named. It is absolutely a little weird. But beautiful and sentimental and fierce and thought-provoking.
