I think this is the strangest book I have ever read. A few parts were ok, but the rest had me scratching my head, wondering what in the world she was talking about. There were SO MANY metaphors inside other metaphors. It was so weird. If I hadn't been reading this for a book club, I totally would have DNF'd it. The cover art is pretty cool, though.
So good as an audiobook, and after I was done listening I went out and bought the visual version as well so I could re-read it with my eyes.

A little too weird for me and too nonchalant about some animal injuries :(

I didn’t know anything about Jenny Slate before I listened to this. I picked it out (from my free library app, shoutout to Spokane Public Library!) because it was only four hours long, (but took me 8 because I kept listening to the extra weird bits over and over) she reads it herself, and (mostly) because George Saunders said that it was, “Honest, funny, positive, completely original, and inspiring in the very best way.” I agree with George. I’m so glad I experienced this collection—it really was an experience. Some of the weirds were too weird, or just the wrong kind of weird for me, but I thought it was liberating and touching and fun, fart jokes aside.
Jenny Slate I love you girl but this was a bit insufferable. It just felt like a girl who has felt a lil weird all her life trying to make herself seem ten times more quirky on page and just not making any sense at all. A few of the essays resonated but most of them just felt repetitive and a bit annoying to read.
