Finally reading a whole book in my Darling's point of view and I am over cloud nine at it. He's such a sweetheart and I fell hard for him after I read his POV.

It’s a testament to how much I love this series and this couple; that Dealing in Death gets 4 stars. The extended novella is a retelling of Why the Devil Stalks Death from Ethan’s point of view. It did take me a little while to get into the story because I am not a fan of going over and rehashing plot points that I’, already familiar with. I didn’t reread Why the Devil Stalks Death in preparation; and I didn’t need to. The plot followed so closely to the original story that everything came back: Ethan quitting the Cabal to move in with Jack, Jack working with the Infinity Strike Force to track down the serial killer known as the judge, and the complication of Jack’s former hook up and Infinity Strike Force profiler Adam Quinn.

It was interesting getting insight into what Ethan was thinking and what he was doing behind the scenes as well as seeing how he perceived Jack. Seeing him interact with his Cabal “sisters” and recounting his history with them illustrates that despite the Cabal’s efforts to turn him into an emotionless cold-blooded killer – they never really succeeded. Ethan was the only one of the siblings who had sworn never to kill one of the others, no matter who gave the order. Ethan was always looking for connection and family; which unfortunately is what made him vulnerable to Two and his machinations.

Ethan and Jack are both very engaging characters. Both flawed, but so sweet together. I look forward to the next installment.

A whole book from Ethan's POV

YAAAAASSS!

Being in Ethan's head was such a treat. To be able to understand how he was feeling in different scenes from book 2, was heartbreaking at times. He was truly all in with Jack and wanted to do what was best for him... He was also being his regular ^Quirky^ self and that made him retreat at times.

I loved his POV. I loved him before and I love him even more now. He was so perfectly flawed and human. Such a great character

I expected another thing. Nothing new here, excepting the stuff about Dejana that doesn't seem to contribute anything to the main story. Dedicating a whole book to a different point of view for events already told in the previous instance, did nothing but disappoint me a little. The only matter about I want to know is how the story continues after THAT ping

This was a little disappointing. I am a person that very rarely goes back to re-read a book for a second time ... but I did ... and read [b:Why the Devil Stalks Death|40614258|Why the Devil Stalks Death (Death and the Devil, #2)|L.J. Hayward|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1541415725l/40614258._SY75_.jpg|63091131] (the second book in this series) in preparation for this instalment. In many ways, I wish I hadn't. And even though this is the kind of storytelling and series that lends itself well to a revisit read (complex narration, plot and characters) ... I found myself getting frustrated with a book I originally loved. And even though the angst did not feel superfluous and manufactured the first time around, it did with the second reading. Ethan's troubled past felt a little overplayed and so was his persistent reticence. Which meant, this book was a slog! The frustration of reading the same book over again, only this time from a new POV was difficult to ignore. I would have much prefered new content and a different approach to moving the story along. It might have just been that I wasn't in the mood for this right now ... because previous to this, I have devoured these books and loved this series.

Regardless, we did learn something new ... mostly about Blade and his weird-ass "family" -- which I suspect is the start of new storylines for this series. It is still a very imaginative and interesting world -- and strong characters that have definitely got under my skin!

I don't know, I wish I had enjoyed this more than I did ... I think a lot of this book would have worked better if it was part of the main series and not a separate novella that basically REPEATS the same events from previous books. Repetition is not something I enjoy ... and this is the second series this year where this happened ([b:Ravensong|35114241|Ravensong (Green Creek, #2)|T.J. Klune|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1530449892l/35114241._SX50_.jpg|56425855] by T.J. Klune - stella first book followed by a major rehash in the second). I am worried about this series ... it could fall apart pretty quickly, but so far is still holding on as one of my favourites (despite being a bit disappointed by this book).

Okay, I THINK this was the strongest installation in the series. I really, really like the character of Ethan Blade and the author writes him very well. The pacing of this story was better than previous stories, but mostly because the reader knows most of the plot. Anyway, while not an amazingly written story on its own, it’s certainly solid and I think it’s now one of my favorites.

5⭐️ Oh dear sweet Ethan. It was so nice to get the story from his perspective.
The rest of the series is told from Jack’s POV and Jack very stoic and closed off whereas Ethan is just so endearing and sweet and innocent in a lot of ways. Loved this.
