I don't think anything is really bad about the book. Nothing problematic. Prose is fine. No glaring plot holes. It was just impossible to care much about the story. The initial premise is very interesting but everything is drowned up by an overly complicated yet predicable mystery. I couldn't call all of the details but I knew in general what would happen and what information would come back. That last chapter also sucks. I don't know if it's meant to be sequel bait, but I won't be taking a bite if it is.
I'm not interested in reading a book about a woman going after people who did nothing but expose the truth about what happened to their husbands. I don't think anyone would, not when we already go into the story knowing all of the details. Annie is pitiful, not interesting in any way.
If it isn't sequel bait, then all it serves to do is give us a meaningless plot detail that undercuts the very few things the ending had going for it.
