Super interesting to learn about the process of selecting a new pope. This book had lots of fun twists and turns but was a bit too dry for me to love more.

Bought this as a treat for myself after submitting my Theology dissertation and what a worthwhile purchase it was. Definitely on par with the awesomeness of the movie (which is rare for book/movie comparisons). Twitter definitely gets some things plainly wrong when it talks about this book but then again, when does it not? The friendship displayed between certain characters was beautiful; I especially loved the part of Lomeli and Bellini throwing a note at each other while waiting for the voting to finish - it drives home the boyish relationship many of the Cardinals have with each other and humanises them indescribably.

This isn't the first book I've read from Robert Harris (Pompeii was the first), and I can say that he always, in my experience, writes with such prose and perspective that you can't help but feel compassion for the characters in a way that doesn't make you think of the elementary efforts of many YA authors to do the same. His characters are real, flawed, and utterly solid. Will probably reread for years to come, as will I rewatch the film. I cannot emphasise enough how much fans of the Conclave movie will enjoy its source material.

This is probably one of the few times where I’ve read a book after seeing the movie and I’m actually glad I saw the movie first. Not the greatest piece of literature I’ve ever read in my life, but I was entertained. Lawrence/Lomeli is a sad old man I always find fun to watch, no matter the medium, and I did enjoy reading the extra details about the characters’ backgrounds that either couldn’t make it into the movie or were changed
