I'm pretty sure I just obsessively inhaled this audiobook. One of my favorite authors and my absolute favorite female narrator (Caroline Lee). I loved getting to know each of these characters and the story was great too.

This story is about a friendship between Erika and Clementine. The friendship is love/hate friendship where one needs the other more. The story is told from an incident that occurs at a barbecue in a neighbors home and it is the incident that breaks the friendship open. The PCs is a little slow but I loved all the characters and wanted to know more.

I would love to read a sequel as the interplay between the interplay main characters would continue and their emmeshment dissolves

Very predictable and incredibly slow and boring. I hate narratives where all the characters keep hinting at the “big terrible thing that happened” but just won’t say it. It’s not an engaging plot device so much as incredibly frustrating. It didn’t bother me as much in Big Little Lies but I think that’s because she was holding back a name, not what happened. Also the terrible thing that happens in this book seems like it would be scary, sure, but it didn’t seem big enough that it would ruin the lives of all 6 of the adults. If you expect this to be as good as Big Little Lies, you will be disappointed.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Liane Moriarty's new book Truly Madly Guilty tells the story of a barbecue gone awry and its impacts on the relationships of the party guests. The book's tagline is "What if we hadn't gone?" I won't say much more about the plot because I don't want to spoil it (the suspense of wondering just what went wrong is what drives the book), but it follows Moriarty's usual style of revealing tidbits of information through different times and perspectives.

I really enjoyed getting to the heart of what happened, and I wasn't expecting several elements of the plot.
SpoilerI didn't think Harry would play a real role, and I teared up when I read his chapter. I also thought the barbecue involved adultery in some way, so the actual crisis was surprising. (Even in a spoiler tag I won't spoil the plot -- read the book!)
I will say that I'd hoped the dog would play a bigger role because, well, dog! Still, I thought the story was compelling and interesting and definitely worth a read.

I've loved all of Moriarty's books, and this one was no exception. I was thrilled to win a copy through a Goodreads giveaway because 1) I never win and 2) I was considering pre-ordering this book as soon as I saw it was coming out. I would recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the author's other books, as well as anyone interested in a suspenseful book about relationships and almost-ordinary events. It was a great read and perfect for summer!

I am trying to wrap my head around why I did not like this book as much as her other works. Perhaps it was that I found none of the characters to be likeable or perhaps I felt as though one of the characters had a background too close to home with the descriptions of her parent being a hoarder, growing up poor, and dealing with incredible amounts of flea bites. Nonetheless, it was not as clever or funny as Moriarty's previous works.
