This one was a hard slog for me. The tease of what happened at the BBQ for over 50% of the book was just too far in for me and reduced my enjoyment of the novel. This really had some potential and I wanted to get to know more about the main characters, but sadly it didn't happen.
I really liked Big Little Lies and decided to give another one of her books a try. It was enjoyable but I didn't feel as connected to the characters. The plot seemed more focused on the "big reveal" which I just got annoyed waiting for. It was a good read, just not what I was hoping for.
I loved the twist and it came so late in the book! Kept me moving and enjoying this.

It was a slow burn to start, and I started to get frustrated ( as i do with most of this author’s books lol) but in the end I thought it was a great exploration of how people cope with guilt and I liked how everything came together in the end.

She is one of my go-to-author but this particular one just didn’t really catch my interest. The mental health issue she introduced was interesting - hoarding and alcoholism and their effects on families and the adults the children became. I just found the way the chapters were written annoying. And couldn’t quite empathize with any of the characters.
Once I figured out what happened at the barbecue, I had a hard time reading the rest! It was a well-written book with good messages, but ughhhh. In my current phase of life, it was a tough read. That's all I'll say!
