Four Friends by Robyn Carr
This is the story of 4 friends who live near one another and have for years as their lives have progressed through various stages of love and relationships.
The past events have come to light for some that lead them to upheaval.
Like especially the friendship of the woman who run every day, their lives as they do all they can for their families. Teens dealing with drugs, drinking and their parents breakups along with date rape that brings the parents together to deal with it.
Follows the spouses side to the stories as well as you get a well rounded opinion and can select a side to stick with.
Liked the confrontations and how they were handled.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Four friends who are also neighbors and each have very large personal hurdles that with the help of each other they will be able to overcome and find the best solution for themselves. Cheating husbands, deep depression and a sordid past all take hold of these women and they must figure out what lies next - I won't reveal who had to deal with what to keep a little bit of surprise to the book.

A really sweet, fun women's fiction story about four women who thought they'd have life figured out. When they each try to navigate the hardships of life, kids, and marriage they find their inner strength and determination to make each day better. I enjoyed that while each woman had difficulties and problems they had each other to turn to. Fun read!

This is my first Robyn Carr novel and if the rest of her work is like this, I'll be reading more! I loved everything about this book: the dynamics of all the different relationships, the characters, the struggles, the honesty.... I really liked that there was a little romance without being raunchy and overdone or completely unrealistic like the typical chick-lit novel.
In a way, Four Friends reminded me a bit of a condensed, more down-to-earth version of the TV show Desperate Housewives.

Very disappointing. Not up to this author's normal quality, the plot, characters even the writing were substandard as if she phoned it in.

LJ review:

New York Times best-selling author Carr (The Newcomer) explores the nature of love and strength of friendship in four women as they deal with devastating changes to their families. Andy falls for the contractor remodeling her kitchen after tossing out her cheating second husband. Sonja's whole world collapses when her husband decides that he has had enough of her crystals, pot, and meditation lifestyle. Gerri struggles with keeping her busy career and three-teenager household in balance while dealing with the fallout of discovering her husband had an affair. And BJ is definitely hiding something. While the timing of these situations is just a bit too coincidental to be believable, the fast-paced prose, strong female characterizations, and multiple third-person points of view keep the action moving. The protagonists are believably flawed and, although there are no easy answers, each works to ground herself as unexpected consequences of her actions reverberate.
VERDICT: Realistic family drama lovers and those who enjoy strong female perspectives will be rooting for these four friends to get their happily-ever-afters.-Charli Osborne, Oxford P.L., MI

Even though I love Robyn Carr, I didn’t think I would like this books just because it isn’t a typical romance. But...I did! Would definitely recommend if you are ok with multiple story lines in one book...

"Gerri can't decide what's more devastating: learning her rock-solid marriage has big cracks, or the anger she feels as she tries to repair the damage. Always the anchor for friends and her three angst-ridden teenagers, it's time to look carefully at herself. The journey for Gerri and her family is more than revealing—it's transforming.

Andy doesn't have a great track record with men, and she's come to believe that for her a lasting love is out of reach. When she finds herself attracted to her down-to-earth, ordinary contractor—a man without any of the qualities that usually appeal to her—she questions everything she thought she wanted in life.

Sonja's lifelong pursuit of balance is shattered when her husband declares he's through with her New Age nonsense and walks out. There's no herbal tonic or cleansing ritual that can restore her serenity—or her sanity.

Miraculously, it's BJ, the reserved newcomer to Mill Valley, who steps into their circle and changes everything. The woman with dark secrets opens up to her neighbors, and together they get each other back on track, stronger as individuals and unfaltering as friends." (From Amazon)

Another great book by Robyn Carr. She is my go-to for a read that has emotion, humour, friendship, romance and family. I love Therese Plummer who narrates most of Carr's books. As soon as I hear her voice it takes me back to Virgin River and I feel a calm come over me. I recommend this to any reader that enjoys contemporary fiction.
