I’m overcome with an overpowering jealousy that I didn’t write this. It felt like this story happened within my own body it was so viscerally real. After I finished it I woke up dreaming of godstars and beasts who aren’t beastly and ordinary love that was bigger than wishes and stronger than war. I love the powerful message of hope that kept me reading even though some parts were so depressing it was physically painful.

The meaning of bittersweet has never felt so real than it does right now. I'm amazed at this book and at Laini Taylor for having written it.

I just can't do it. I really tried to like this, I got to more than half way but nope...

From memory, I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, struggled through the second one and now not finishing the third...

This book was too long in my opinion, because there wasn't much excitement or story. Also at times I found myself reading a whole paragraph and thinking 'what the hell did I just read, it doesn't make sense!'. I was lost so often, that it's not worth continuing to read just so that I can get to the small amount of enjoyable bits.

2.5-3 ⭐

This was my least favorite of the trilogy for sure. While the writing was lovely, the story seemed to drag and overuse of the flowery language brought it down further. I think there are quite a few scenes that could have been cut to make this finale better. Wasn't a huge fan of "real life" being pulled into the mix and really could have done without those bits.

If I didn't have the audiobook on 2.15x speed, I probably wouldn't have finished it?

Overall kind of a let down after the last two books, but I'm glad I'm done with the trilogy.

Ooookkkkk
FIRST OFF- I looooved this series as a whole, but this book and the first one could honestly probably be in my top 10 books of all time. Ok maybe top 12. Ok I like a lot of books, lets just say this is one of my favorite series I've ever read.
SECONDLY- why can't we have more scenes with Akiva and Karou??? I loved seeing their romance play out amidst the preparations for an oncoming war, but I feel like the ending to the book was a bit unsatisfying. Yes, we did see them get their happy ending, but I want more!
FINALY- I definitely think that the book as a whole was extremely well written, but in some of the later scenes in the story, I felt like the explanation of the magic system was dragging on and yet still not making any sense to me. By the time the big finale was in motion, I did have a better grasp on what was going on, but I still feel like all of the droning on and on could have been simplified a bit more.

OVERALL- I loved it. It gave me all of the feels, I laughed, I cried, I was excited, I was fearful, but the ending left me wanting just a *tiny* bit more.
