Not a particulary good book based on the Alpha Legion and the Cabal. Also it is the first book of the series with Grammaticus. The story is lackluster and the whole spy story elabes much to be desired. Not one of the strongest books that Dan Abnett has.

Another sterling effort from Abnett. Lots of spinning wheels, the unending and inevitable errors of war, cunning and gallows humour.
Nice to get inside the world of the Alpha Legion. It has reignited my fondness for the saga.

Ar the beginning there was a lot of slang so to say it was hard to follow but from the middle of the book the plot got so good.
All in all it was a very good book in the Horus heresy series. You get just a little bit of an idea how the plot ties in.

The Emperor Protects. Unfortunately, he can't protect me from the boring parts of this book. I think the Alpha Legion is super cool but when this book is boring it is extremely boring. Maybe underrated 3 stars.
