another good page turner, with some steamy parts, so maybe for the more mature teen reader.

Loved it just like the first one. This book did not really center on dead bodies like the first, but I feel like that is why I liked it so much. Don;t get me wrong there was body finding in the book, but this story was more based on Violet's relationship with Jay and her figuring out how to grow with this gift that she had. This has to be one of my favorite series...can't wait to see what is next in the lives of Violet, Jay and the others.

I really liked it =)
It's way better than the first one, which I didn't like much >_<".
There's more action in the story and more problems to solve :)
It's really good, I can't wait for the third one, The Last Echo ^_^

So honestly after reading this book I was like okay, this has to be a series for younger kids because these books are ridiculous. There is no point, everything is completely predictable, and the once somewhat likable character of Violet has transformed into this whiny, stupid person. Then I realized that these books have "sex scenes" and so now I think they are YA books that just really suck. Super formulaic, nothing original, awful characters...yep. Done with this series. Apologies to the author, I'm sure she's a nice lady and good for her to have completed writing four books and getting them published.. obviously not an easy feat. But man these books are pretty bad. I've read worse. So... not one star. But two.

So...yeeeah. This book disappointed me. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, since I had some issues with the first one, but there were some things that really annoyed me about Desires of the Dead that made it far less enjoyable than I'd imagined:

1. Violet. Just Violet. I tried, but I really didn't like her. She's an idiot. She doesn't think through any of her actions, she's emotionally retarded, and she's dense to everything going on around her.

She is constantly being 'surprised' that her parents let her do anything. Were they super strict until recently? Then again, they did basically no parenting in the book, so maybe she had reasons to be concerned. She's such a goody-goody though, so it's not like she does anything really crazy of her own free will while she's out wandering the streets in the middle of the night. She's just compelled to do things, guys.

She really lost me when she thought she 'broke up' with Jay. I was literally looking at the book going "WTF??" He voiced ONE dissenting opinion and you hung up on him. That is called a FIGHT, and a stupid one at that. But to go on to sob and moan and tell people you broke up, and then blather on about your independence and how you don't NEED him but WANT him? To shun the poor boy and not even talk to him? Who the eff does that? That whole section was needless. She was so freakin' self-righteous about it all, too, which really bothered me. So, let me guess, Violet, when you were 'just' best friends he never said anything against your ideas? You never had a friendly disagreement? Yeah, that's healthy. Then the make-up scene. Ugh. Jay is not a real teenage boy. His balls are dangling on Violet's bedpost.

2. Jay's over-protectiveness of Violet started to get annoying, too. Are you her father? She doesn't even feel comfortable enough in confiding little things to you for fear that you will lock her in a room and stand guard. I don't blame her for keeping secrets from you. It's also not very interesting to read about him demanding she tell the adults every little thing. Are you 13? No, you're almost adults. I think you can figure shit out on your own.

On one hand, however, I don't blame Jay completely for his concern, because Violet is so freaking clueless about doing anything to protect herself EVER that she probably will get herself offed while she's out hunting bodies. She just stood there like a lump when Mike's dad threatened her, and, of course, the boys swooped in to save the day.

3. The entire Sara Priest/Rafe storyline was not well-thought out. And to leave it just kind of dangling--obviously for the next book--was kind of a slap in the face for anyone reading THIS book. We see them all dance around this 'band of special people' the entire book. But yet we get no actual information about it. Rafe is mysterious (and attractive--for Christ's sake. Do we have to go there?) and obviously has some sort of mind-reading ability thing, but let's not give the readers any details, just pointless conversations where everyone is keeping secrets from each other. Sara also barely gets any background info except that she's super efficient at her job. Yay? And Violet just trudges along like she doesn't understand what's going on when it's...not that hard to comprehend.

The premise of these books is intriguing. If the characters had been a little more realized, acted more like actual people; if the plot had been given a bit more depth and finesse, this could have been really compelling. I kept waiting for so much more. I think I'll be waiting a long time.

I'll probably read the next one, but it definitely won't be something I have to run right out for.

I liked this book much better. Violet still bugs me because she tries to do everything on her own still. She does have plenty of people around her that would help her if she only asked but that was the only part of this book that bothered me.

So wow this plot had many twists and turns. It made you feel almost every emotion on the spectrum and more. This book starts off shortly after where Body Finder ended and Violet is still having a hard time getting over what happened at the school. Her uncle now has an echo from saving her life and Jay worships him. Jay is more protective of Violet than ever before and there love is so strong, but Violet feels like she can't talk to him anymore because to protect her he'd tell her uncle or parents, so she gets into a lot of situations in this book without help cause she refuses to tell him. Much to Violet's displeasure Jay makes a new friend out of Mike Russo, a cute/jock type, sweetheart with a heart of gold, the new kid in school. His family just moved in. Jay starts spending a lot of time with Mike and Violet starts feeling left out.

The real trouble and fun starts when Sara Priest on FBI consultant finds out about Violet's powers and starts harassing her about what she can do to help people. Sara's assistant Rafe is oh so yummy too. He is the dark, brooding type boy we all love. Violet starts getting threats and hang up calls, even a message through a dead cat put in her driveway, she doesn't know who to tell or who she can trust. Derting did an incredible job making the stalker creepy, and kinda crazy. She is great at making morbid and creepy atmospheres that draw you in and keep you riveted.

Again as stated before the only reason I took off one star was Violet bugged the crap out of me. I wanted to throttle her. She overthinks everything and her naiveté through the whole book was frustrating. I understand that her powers compel her to go she has no choice but to follow the echo. What I don't get is why do it alone when you know it could be dangerous and also the decisions she makes about her relationship with Jay were just so beyond frustrating I wanted to scream. When she breaks things off with Jay and is too damn stubborn to even let him talk to her I wanted to kill her. But they were both so miserable and sad that when she finally gets back with him I was so relieved.

The ending was both sad and it keeps you wanting more. No cliffhanger but it does hint at what's to come for Violet and her powers. Can't wait to read the next installment.

If you have read my previous review for the first book, The Body Finder, you are well aware that my family suffered during my reading of that novel. Well, needless to say, my family suffered twice as much while reading the latest in the series, Desires of the Dead! I did not want to put this book down at all! My children starved at lunch time and was forced to fend for themselves. My husband felt neglected as I ignored him while reading this book, only glancing up to kiss him goodbye before work and before bed.

In the latest installment, we are again reading from Violet's point of view. Violet and Jay are still a couple with just as much sweet and tender moments that we experienced in the first book. Her family is still involved with her life including her Uncle Stephen who was a major person in The Body Finder. Her friends are just as fun and goofy--if not more--along with new friends that move to town and play an important role in the story.

When Violet starts to receive threatening gifts and phone calls, Violet starts to pull away from Jay though. She feels like her secret of what she can do is her secret alone and tries to deal with it without involving Jay and her family. When she also comes across an echo of a kidnapped boy, she is pulled into a bigger group involving the FBI. She finds herself being interrogated by Sara, an FBI specialist, and another boy around her age named Rafe who works with Sara. Along the way, we learn that Sara and Rafe have secrets of their own and are just as reluctant to tell Violet their stories as Violet was to tell hers. Violet must learn who to trust and who to turn to when her stalker starts to take more drastic measures against her.

I literally could not put this book down. I gripped the pages in suspense so hard that I bent the pages! Just like in The Body Finder, you will think you have it figured out and then the author will send you in another direction. Ms. Derting knows how to keep the reader on the edge of their seat and their heart racing with anticipation! Just like the echo's call to Violet, you will find yourself drawn into this book and not letting go!

The book was pretty great. It kept me wanting to read more. Of course, Jay and Violet's romance is the main part that keeps me going, but the suspense and cuoristy it gives you makes you keep reading just like the first book. I wasn't expecting a lot of things at all, especially the sad part with Jay and Violet, it scared me. And I love Rate's power/ability even though it doesn't really tell you what it is. But Violet has to stay in love with Jay, they have to be together or it will ruin the book series for me. Lol.

Overall, the book was great to read. I loved it. I believe that first book was better, but Desires of the Dead was good as well. You should read it if you liked the first book.
