Not my favorite book by this author. It was an engaging read but the ending was pretty anticlimactic. I think we were supposed to be surprised but it was what I had assumed happened from the beginning.
I am a big fan of Jodi Picoult and have always loved the twists at the end of her books. That being said, I figured out the twist in this one before I was even half way finished with the book and it made the remainder of the book very anti-climactic!
I enjoy Jodi Picoult's style of writing and careful attention to detail. The story was a roller-coaster of emotion and the way Jodi describes some ordinary feelings from so many different perspectives is admirable.
I couldn't put this down. I love Jodi and this is her best in awhile. She captures the essence of a person with Asperger's so well and really keeps the story moving.
I would have given it a much higher rating if the mother in the story didn’t repeatedly say vaccines caused her son’s Autism. Fictional novel or not, that is dangerous misinformation that should never be spread. Vaccines do not cause Autism. Good book, except for the anti-science fear mongering nonsense.
almost stopped reading when they blamed vaccines for autism. bc that's wrong you guys. it's been proven wrong. and it's wrong. even the timing isn't a problem. so stop it.

it was interesting because I learned more about Asperger's and walked away with a better understanding of the syndrome. The story, however, was predictable and had the same formula as her other books. The twist at the end wasn't really a twist. The truth was finally said aloud and it was so frustrating because I predicted the outcome half way through the book. It was so-so for me.
I really wanted to love this book. It made me laugh and I felt a lot of empathy for her characters. Even the first-person narrative was enjoyable, and insights into autism were well placed. But the language and predictability of the story leave a lot to be desired. For anyone who reads mysteries, this one is pretty obvious to see coming, and I also really didn't appreciate reading so many f-words.
